A Word on Giving

First, a few truths.

Truth 1: Yahweh needs nothing from us. He is complete, without us. He loves us and wants us, but his wellbeing and livelihood are not dependent on our cooperation.

Truth 2: We need Yahweh. We need His rest, His provision, His redemption, His sanctification.

So, if Yahweh doesn’t need our resources (or anything else for that matter), why give? In short, because giving is a form of releasing, of yielding. The act of giving is similar to keeping Yahweh’s sabbaths. On a sabbath day, we stop, giving Yahweh our time. And in our stopping, we make a statement to Yahweh, to ourselves, and to the world: Yahweh is our Provider and His kingdom is our primary concern.

If you’ll notice, Yahweh doesn’t ask for all of our time (though it is all His) or all of our money (though it is all His). At the same time, Yahweh does ask (a command, really) for a portion of each to help us walk in a way that keeps our hearts focused on and dependent upon Him.

Truth 3: While Yeshua’s House needs resources to facilitate ministry, we also believe the needed resources come from God’s hand, not yours. And yet, every one of us has a responsibility to give what the Lord requires of us – in love and in faith and, apparently, Yahweh is especially pleased when we do it cheerfully (2 Cor 9:7)!
